Currency converter guide
What does this calculator help you figure out?
Use this currency converter to estimate how much an amount in one currency is worth in another. It requests a current rate from Frankfurter first and automatically tries a free backup service if Frankfurter is unavailable. Select the source and destination currencies, enter the amount, and review both the converted amount and the rate used. Exchange markets move continuously, and providers may differ slightly because of update timing, rounding, fees, and spreads. This page is for quick comparisons and planning; a bank, card network, remittance service, broker, or accounting system may use a different executable rate.
How is the result calculated?
Converted amount = amount × exchange rate. If 1 USD = 0.92 EUR, then 100 USD × 0.92 = 92 EUR.
Worked example
Worked example: enter 100 USD and choose EUR. If the retrieved rate is 0.92 EUR per USD, the calculator shows 92 EUR. Change the currencies or amount to request the corresponding live pair rate.
Units and conversion notes
Enter a monetary amount and choose ISO 4217 currency codes such as USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD, INR, BDT, CHF, or CNY. The displayed currency symbol follows the destination currency. The result is rounded for display; preserve the full rate when reconciling an actual payment.
Common mistakes to avoid
Good to know: a mid-market reference rate is not necessarily the rate you receive. Banks and payment providers can add a spread, fee, or markup. Check the quote timestamp, settlement currency, and provider terms before sending money or recording a transaction.
Results are planning estimates. Check the units, product coverage, carrier rules, or local rates before making a purchase or financial decision.
Common questions
Frequently asked questions
Where do the currency rates come from?
The calculator tries the Frankfurter API first and uses a free ExchangeRate-API open endpoint as a backup when the primary service is unavailable.
Is this the rate my bank will charge?
Not necessarily. The displayed rate is a reference estimate; banks, cards, brokers, and money-transfer services may add spreads, fees, or markups.
How often do exchange rates change?
Rates can change throughout the trading day. The calculator requests a fresh pair rate when needed and briefly reuses it in the browser to avoid unnecessary requests.
What currencies are supported?
The converter includes USD, EUR, GBP, JPY, CAD, AUD, INR, BDT, CHF, and CNY.
Does the converter store my amount?
No amount is sent to NumberTrove or stored by the calculator. The amount is used in your browser, while only the currency pair is sent to the selected rate provider.
