Time converter guide
The time converter moves a duration between seconds, minutes, hours, days, and weeks. The second is the SI base unit, and the other four are non-SI units the SI Brochure accepts for use with it, all fixed by whole-number factors: 60 s in a minute, 3,600 s in an hour, 86,400 s in a day, and 604,800 s in a week. Because every factor is an integer, the results are exact until the two-decimal display rounds them. The tool converts your entry to seconds and divides by the seconds in the destination unit. Use it to turn a project estimate in hours into working days, a timer in seconds into minutes, a flight or rental period into hours, or a large second count from a log file or API into days and weeks. Months and years are not offered, because their lengths vary; the units section gives the conventions to use if you need them.
Time (to) = time (from) × seconds per from-unit ÷ seconds per to-unit. Factors (s): second 1, minute 60, hour 3,600, day 86,400, week 604,800.
Worked example with the defaults: 1 hour to minutes. Convert to seconds: 1 × 3,600 = 3,600 s. Divide by the seconds in a minute: 3,600 ÷ 60 = 60 minutes, the displayed figure. The detail rows show the same hour as 3,600 s, 1 ÷ 24 = 0.04 days, and 1 ÷ 168 = 0.01 weeks. For a larger entry, 1,000,000 seconds is 1,000,000 ÷ 86,400 = 11.57 days, or 1.65 weeks, and a 100-hour task is 100 ÷ 24 = 4.17 calendar days, or 12.5 eight-hour working days.
Enter the duration as one decimal number in the From unit; 1 h 30 min is 1.5 hours or 90 minutes. Milliseconds divide by 1,000 to seconds. For months use 30.4375 days (365.25 ÷ 12) as an average, and for years 365 or 365.25 days, entering the result in days; the converter itself never assumes a month length. Working days are a convention, usually 8 hours, not the 24-hour day used here. Small results such as 1 hour in weeks show as 0.01 because of the two-decimal display.
Unit conversion is exact when the conversion factor is exact, so the only real uncertainty here is rounding and the precision of your input. Where a unit has more than one definition — US versus imperial measures, or short versus metric tons — the wrong variant produces a plausible-looking but wrong answer. The units note above states which definition this page uses. On this page the figure rests entirely on value, from and to, so start there if the time converter returns something you did not expect.
Good to know: the “day” here is 24 hours, so 40 hours converts to 1.67 days, not the 5 working days a schedule means. Decimal hours and clock notation look alike but are not: 1.5 hours is 1 h 30 min, and 1 h 15 min is 1.25 hours, not 1.15. Time zones and daylight-saving changes make some calendar days 23 or 25 hours long, which a fixed converter cannot know. And a seconds figure from a computer clock may be Unix time, a point in time, rather than an elapsed interval.
Conversion results use stated mathematical factors and display precision. For regulated, medical, engineering, or contractual work, confirm the required standard and precision.

With Value = 1 · From = hours · To = minutes → 60 minutes (1 hours converted to minutes). Change an input above and this example updates with your numbers.
Common questions
86,400 seconds: 24 hours × 60 minutes × 60 seconds. A day is also 1,440 minutes. A week is 604,800 seconds, and a 365-day year is 31,536,000 seconds, which is why a million seconds is only 11.57 days while a billion seconds is about 31.7 years.
10,080 minutes: 7 days × 1,440 minutes. A week is also 168 hours. A standard 40-hour working week is therefore 2,400 minutes, or about 23.8% of the 10,080 minutes available.
Divide by 24. 100 hours is 4.17 days, 36 hours is 1.5 days, and 1,000 hours is 41.67 days. If you mean working days, divide by the hours in your working day instead; 100 hours at 8 hours a day is 12.5 working days.
1,000,000 seconds is 16,666.67 minutes, 277.78 hours, 11.57 days, or 1.65 weeks, so a little over 11 and a half days. Ten million seconds is 115.74 days, about 3.8 months.
1.5 hours, from 90 ÷ 60. Write it as 1 h 30 min in clock notation, not 1.30. Similarly 45 minutes is 0.75 h, 20 minutes is 0.33 h, and 150 minutes is 2.5 h.
