What makes 41 notable
- Prime. 41 is prime: it has exactly two divisors, 1 and itself, so it cannot be split into equal whole-number groups any other way.
41 in everyday use
Forty-one is the atomic number of niobium, a metal used in superconducting magnets and jet engines. Mozart's last symphony, No. 41 in C major, is nicknamed the Jupiter. Forty-one was the number of George H. W. Bush's presidency, and his family used "41" as a nickname to distinguish him from his son, the 43rd president. In Hebrew numerals 41 is written mem-aleph.
Forty-one is the thirteenth prime and a twin prime with 43. It is the sum of the first six primes, 2 + 3 + 5 + 7 + 11 + 13, and the sum of two consecutive squares, 16 + 25. Euler noticed that the formula n² + n + 41 produces a prime for every n from 0 to 39, an unusually long run that fails only at n = 40, when it gives 41 × 41.

How to read this page
Because 41 is prime, the factor list stops at 1 and 41 itself, so it cannot be shared into equal whole-number groups. That is also what makes it useful as a building block: every larger number with 41 in its prime factorisation inherits it from here.
